Ford presented in Buenos Aires to the facelift of its Focus range. It incorporates aesthetic launched globally in the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, and now reaches Mercosur to be imported from Argentina to the whole region. It is hoped that this is the version that will (finally) to world.
With a new design that expresses the evolution of Kinetic Design (called Kinetic 2.0) and unreleased technologies in the segment, the new Focus was exhibited for the first time in the region, in Argentina during the 7th Motor Buenos Aires.
As its predecessor, the new Focus is already being manufactured in Argentina in General Pacheco plant. This project is part of the investment plan recently announced by Ford for its operation in the country 220 million. This investment plan includes the renovation of global products manufactured in Argentina, modernization of production processes in its production plant and an ambitious plan of location of auto parts.
The design of the new generation Focus shows the hallmark of the latest expression of kinetic design through the hexagonal grille, elongated headlights and two ribs on the hood that print a more aggressive look than the previous model. The interior features a new design that seeks to improve comfort, with better materials and better technology, using the SYNC multimedia system second generation.
The new Focus takes off regional rivals once again in terms of connectivity and technology for its segment, and includes new security systems that combine intelligent driver assistance devices with active and passive safety for the protection of passengers vehicle, with the aim of contributing to the prevention of accidents and protect the driver in case they can not be avoided.
One example is the Active City Stop, a system of emergency braking assistance for the city that operates at speeds below 50 km / h. It comprises sensors detecting the relative speed and distance from the preceding vehicle by scanning the environment 50 times per second. In the case of detecting a collision without the driver taking any action, the brakes are automatically activated to mitigate the consequences of an impact or, in some cases, completely prevent them.
Also, the new Focus is the only vehicle produced in Mercosur that has a unique system for parking assistance. Once activated by the driver, the assistant in charge of finding a parking space and to make the steering wheel turns required to complete the maneuver in parallel and perpendicular spaces.
Mechanically no news, keeping the same drivers. 1.6 16v Sigma maintains that produces 125 hp and a torque of 159 Nm. It is associated with a five-speed manual gearbox.
The second level is the Duratec 2.0 GDI direct injection. It has 170 horsepower and maximum torque of 202 Nm. It offers two options box, a fifth manual or automatic robotic double clutch and six relations, as named by Ford PowerShift, with paddles behind the wheel.
While for now has no confirmed date, it is sure that this will be the Focus finally come to our market. After a "feint" in November 2013, the importer decided to wait for this update to launch the third-generation Focus in world.
While the saying "better late than never", it is true that the model is for sale in the region two years ago, and since then, Ford lost ground in the C-segment model can hope to get shooting their latest rivals, since credentials to do so, not lacking.
