For the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche presents a renewal of the 911 Carrera. From now on, all models of this product family will include mechanical turbocharged, and is no longer exclusive to the most powerful variants. We know after the jump.
They have been redefined many exterior elements of the 911 Carrera. Starting with the new headlights with daytime running lights four points to handles integrated into the bodywork door, through a redesigned rear cover with vertical slats, or a new optical groups including lights brake features four points. Inside, premiered the new Porsche Communication Management system series has a touch screen that offers many more features and greatly simplifies operation.
But the highlight is the new generation of bi-turbo engine of the 911 Carrera. Now the race "plain" version has 370 horsepower. The engine of the Carrera S, meanwhile, now has 420 hp. In both cases this represents an increase of 20 horsepower over the previous generation. Both engines have a displacement of three liters. The power improvement is achieved thanks to a turbo modified to a specific exhaust system and a new engine management compressors.
The new Porsche engines are characterized by a significant increase in torque (60 Nm in each case), which reaches 450 and 500 Nm respectively, and that in both models is delivered consistently between 1,700 and 5,000 rpm. At the same time, the maximum rotational speed of 7,500 rpm which is the new generation of engines far exceeds usual in turbo propellers and emphasizing the typical sound of mechanical boxer Porsche.
In turn, this new generation of engines is almost twelve percent more efficient, depending on the variant. The Porsche 911 Carrera with PDK transmission now consumes 7.4 liters per 100 km (implying a decrease of 0.8 l / 100 km), while the 911 Carrera S with PDK spends 7.7 l / 100 km (1 liter less per 100 km).
The new 911 also improves its performance: the Carrera Coupe with box-Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) double-clutch changes and the Sport Chrono Package accelerates from 0-100 km / h in 4.2 seconds, two tenths faster than his predecessor.
The Carrera S with PDK and Sport Chrono Package makes the same acceleration in 3.9 seconds (including 0.2 seconds faster than the previous model). And the maximum speed of both models have also increased: the 911 Carrera now reaches 295 km / h (6 km / h), while the 911 Carrera S reaches 308 km / h (4 km / h) .
Along the optional Sport Chrono Package, the Porsche 911 Carrera now has, for the first time, a driving mode selector on the steering wheel, derived from that of the 918 Spyder for the hybrid system. The mode switch is a rotary switch with four positions for different types of driving: "Normal", "Sport", "Sport Plus" and "Single".
Depending on the equipment, the latter mode allows the driver to configure various vehicle settings to suit your preferences, for example, PASM active suspension system, dynamic engine mounts assets, exchange programs for the PDK transmission and the sports exhaust system . In combination with PDK gearbox, the switch has an additional button, the "Sport Response Button".
When this button is pressed all the undercarriage is preconditioned for maximum acceleration for 20 seconds, which is useful in cases like preparing to overtake. To do this, the optimum gear and engine management adjusts for an even more immediate response in a short time is engaged.
Additionally, for the first time, the PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management - Porsche Active Suspension), lowers the ride height of ten millimeters, and is part of the standard equipment of all Carrera models. Moreover, in all variants it has increased the width of the rear tires by 0.5 inches (11.5 "in total), and the rear tires of the 911 Carrera S now measure 305 millimeters instead of 295.
A standard feature on the new Carrera models is the newly developed Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, which includes a module on line navigation and voice control. The PCM can be handled in a similar way as a smart mobile phone is used by the seven-inch touch screen. Among other things, users can use handwriting.
Mobile phones and smartphones also can now connect via Wi-Fi. For the first time has integrated a cell tray in the center armrest, saving battery and optimizes phone reception. Also new is the option of connecting an iPhone to PCM to use the Apple carplay application. The new models of the Porsche 911 Carrera family will be available in Latin America and the Caribbean from mid-February 2016.
